Probiotics in Tobacco Farming
By Julie Ann Ponder
SCD Probiotics technology is rooted in agricultural applications. In recent years we have made great strides to lower chemical inputs while maintaining or increasing yields in a variety of crops, including tobacco. SCD Probiotics has completed successful projects in different parts of the world including Poland, Macedonia, and Colombia on many different species of tobacco. Brief summaries of each case are presented in the presentation; results show a reduction in the amount of chemical fertilizers used and, over time, and a return of the soil to a more healthy state. Other benefits achieved include increasing the yield, lowering the input cost per unit, increasing the quality of tobacco, controlling disease, etc.
