Matthew Wood is an honor presenter for the Albrecht Lecture at University of Missouri - Columbia at Natural Resource Building.
The purpose of the event is to promote sustainable agriculture and natural ecosystems.
The Earth Day/Albrecht Lecture is held to emphasize awareness of sustainable environmental activities and is highlighted by the presentation. Dr. W.A. Albrecht, a soil scientist at the University of Missouri from 1915-1970, was a foremost proponent for sustainable management in agriculture during his lifetime. He emphasized the use of practical methods for conserving soils, growing healthy crops and trees and nurturing livestock based on sustainable approaches with little reliance on inorganic and synthetic chemicals. Some of his philosophy is exemplified in his statement that “life on the soil is driven by life in the soil.” Your demonstrated success in promoting sustainability and educating those who steward the land during your career reflects the concepts put forward by Dr. Albrecht.
