Methodology Summary
- 5,100 chickens (1% of total flock) participated in the test
- Trial consisted of feeding .3 - .5 oz. of SCD Bio Livestock per animal per day; the probiotic
liquid concentrate was added to the water supply
- Results at the end of the growth cycle were compared to the control group during that same
period; all other conditions remained the same between the two groups.
Results
Chickens in the test group outperformed chickens in the control group, as demonstrated by the
following statistics:
- Chickens receiving the probiotic supplement were at market weight four days earlier
than the control group (3-4g heavier)
- Mortality rates were lower, decrease of 66% mortality rate, in the test group of
chickens compared to the control group
- The living conditions and the animals themselves were cleaner than the control group
(visual inspection only)
- The chickens in the trial group were delivered to the brokers who then sold the
chickens to the butchers; butchers reported back to the brokers that the meat was
better and requested all future deliveries be of the same quality
- Noticeable reduction in the ammonia smell inherent in the pen area of the test birds
As a result of the test, Himalayan Foods has plans to incorporate SCD Probiotics into their
feeding cycle.
