A Kansas City company will expand to a new market, thanks to a massive contract.
SCD Probiotics, which offers products for human, animal and crop health, announced the contract with Rallis India Ltd. on Thursday. The company is a Mumbai-based subsidiary of Tata Chemicals Ltd., which is part of Tata Group. Through its many subsidiaries, India's largest conglomerate Tata Group "generated revenues of $103.51 billion" in fiscal year 2015-16 and employs more than 660,000 people globally, according to the company's website.
Rallis will distribute SCD Probiotics' line of animal health products in India to improve customers' profits while reducing antibiotic use.
SCD's BioAH line includes probiotic feed and water additives meant to be used as an alternative to antibiotic growth promoters for livestock, poultry and fish. India currently ranks fourth in the world for the production of beef and poultry, and third for the farming of fish and shellfish, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"As one of the leaders in the Indian farm industry, Rallis is a perfect partner to bring our BioAH products to the country's ranchers and farmers," SCD Probiotics CEO and founder Matthew Wood said in a release. "The corporate vision of both companies is to help farmers by bringing innovative technology to agriculture while maintaining corporate sustainability."
Rallis has a significant piece of the market in India, covering more than 80 percent of the country's districts. Rallis currently has more than 2,300 distributors that reach over 40,000 retailers across the country.
"Rallis provides agricultural solutions to more than 5 million farmers in India," Rallis COO KR Venkatadri said in the release. "Our company was drawn to SCD Probiotics because of the superior quality of its extensive product line in the livestock and aquaculture industries and its stellar reputation for customer service."
Sustainable Community Development LLC, which is doing business as SCD Probiotics, has stayed in Kansas City since it was founded in 1998. The company underwent a massive expansion in 2014, moving to a new headquarters and growing its manufacturing facility.
