SCD Probiotics Participates in 2012 Trade Mission to Brazil

CEO Travels to Promote New Eco-Friendly Tannery Products

KANSAS CITY, MO – May 1, 2012 – Matthew Wood, CEO of SCD Probiotics, accompanied Governor Jay Nixon and local business leaders on the governor’s Trade Mission to Sao Paolo, Brazil April 14-18, 2012. This trade mission is a critical step in establishing solid trade relationships between Missouri businesses and potential Brazilian customers and government agencies. SCD Probiotics seeks partnerships with Brazilian companies to introduce beneficial probiotic technologies to a host of different industries including tanneries and leather producers.

Leather production is toxic and polluting, producing wastewater laden with various chemicals and Chromium. SCD Probiotics has developed a line of chemical-free, beneficial tannery products set to hit the market this year. Brazil is the 4th largest producer of leather, exporting 1647.3 million square feet in 2006 alone.* SCD Probiotics anticipates a favorable reception for non-toxic leather processing products in a growing Brazilian industry.

Matthew Wood said, “We see exciting new opportunities in Brazil to implement beneficial probiotic solutions in the leather industry. Our tannery products are cost-effective, beneficial for the environment, and produce high-quality leather in reduced time.”

Brazil is Missouri’s 10th largest export partner, with exports to Brazil making up 2.3 percent of Missouri’s total exports in 2011.

Gov. Nixon said, “We are committed to working directly with provincial and local governments in other countries to open doors and expand opportunities for Missouri businesses to sell their goods around the world. That leads to more jobs and growth here at home.”
