SCD ScentGuard Questions

What is SCD ScentGuard™?

SCD ScentGuard is an all-natural, environmentally friendly odor reducer. The formula contains powerful microbes and their metabolites that work synergistically to inhibit odor. It is produced using SCD Probiotics Technology, which is made through a natural fermentation process and is not chemically synthesized or genetically engineered. Microbes in SCD ScentGuard work using a natural process to populate and consume odor causing compounds in almost any environment.

What are some benefits seen with SCD ScentGuard?

SCD ScentGuard inhibits unpleasant odors commonly found in industrial, livestock, composting, waste-treatment facilities, and/or household environments. It also improves overall surrounding air quality, achieves targeted reductions in odor-control quality parameters, and controls livestock odors.

How do I actually use the product?

SCD ScentGuard is a concentrate and should be used as directed. Please check the product's usage guide for industrial, commercial, and livestock applications.

How is it different from SCD Bio Klean™?

SCD ScentGuard is an all-natural, environmentally friendly odor reducer. On the other hand, SCD Bio KleanTM is an all-natural, industrial-strength cleaner, containing powerful microbes and their metabolites, that breaks down grease, grime, and dirt.

How does the product work to remove odor?

The microorganisms in the product outcompetes other bacteria in a natural fermentation, as they can withstand the increased acidity from organic-acid production. Some of the microorganisms in the product are heterotrophic bacteria, meaning they use organic substrates to get carbon for their growth and development. When there is no organic nitrogen source in a system, heterotrophic bacteria utilize ammonia and break it down into less harmful compounds, which are not putrefactive. The ability of some SCD Technology species to use hydrogen sulfide, which is toxic and converts it into nonpoisonous compounds, is very beneficial in the odor-control industry.

Why is the product unique from other commercial products that remove odor?

Each strain used in SCD Probiotics products doesn’t contain genetically modified organisms (non-GMOs), has a long history of safe applications, and belongs to a species for which no pathogenic strains are known. These selected strains are grown and, all the while, multiplying in a process of co-growth used to develop a beneficial microbial consortium. SCD Probiotics products maintain their guaranteed viable cell numbers under a wide range of temperature range, from 5 - 50 °C (41 - 122 °F). As a result, SCD Probiotics products do not require refrigerated storage and handling. Moreover, low temperature, including freezing point do not have a significant effect on the survival rate of SCD Probiotics cultures inside SCD Probiotics products.

Antimicrobial efficacy: SCD Probiotics products have the potential to be used to control unfriendly microorganisms that harm human health, to cause plant and animal diseases, and to concern safety issues in food service systems and that of global environment.(See document “The Magic behind SCD Probiotics: It is All about Friendly Microorganisms” as a scientific reference.).

How do I dispose of an expired SCD ScentGuard product?

To dispose of expired product, you may pour it down a sink or drain. SCD ScentGuard is all natural, 100% biodegradable, and safe for sewers. It might even unclog your drain and reduce odor!

Will the product work only to remove odor?

Yes, basically the product is designed to be effective at inhibiting unpleasant odors.

What is the shelf-life of the product?

SCD ScentGuard has a two-year shelf life. Check the bottle for the “best before” date. If the best before date has passed, you may continue to use the product but it may be less effective due to reduced amounts of live microorganisms.

Can I use the product together with SCD Bio Klean?

You might be wasting your probiotics if you use two products. However, in special cases, products can be used together depending on the complexity of the system design. Just keep in mind that, SCD ScentGuard is specially packaged to inhibit unpleasant odors, while SCD Bio Klean can also remove odor but is specially formulated to break down grease, grime, and dirt. Please contact the SCD Technical team for advice on usage applications/protocols if you have problems other than odor e.g. sludge build-up, cost efficiency concerns, etc.

How often should I use this product for optimal odor control results?

Many household applications suggest the use of a spray bottle for application. Transfer the desired amount of the SCD Probiotics product into a clean spray bottle and dilute according to instructions. Tightly close the cap on the original SCD Probiotics bottle (this helps maintain the efficacy of the probiotics inside). Use the diluted amount in the spray bottle within 3-4 days for maximum effectiveness. SCD ScentGuard is a concentrate and should be used as directed. The usage guide provides more information on how to use SCD ScentGuard in commercial and home odor control. With only a light spray, SCD ScentGuard is safe and effective for use on textiles, upholstery, carpeting, etc.
