Biological Efficiency of SCD Bio Ag® Against Root-Knot Nematodes in Tomatoes
How to fight Root-Knot Nematodes in Tomatoes
Root-knot nematodes are a microscopic pest that can cause devastating losses--especially in tomato crops, where 30-50% (or more) losses are common. And because these tiny worms live in the soil, they can be difficult to eradicate. Chemical nematicides are pricey, not available to organic farmers, and can negatively impact your health and the health of your farm and surrounding ecosystem. Effective microorganisms--like the ones found in SCD Bio Ag--have been shown to be effective, since they populate the soil and root zones where nematodes live, increase microbial activity, and help increase plants’ natural defenses against pests. And not only are they effective, they’re actually environmentally-beneficial--not to mention, incredibly safe to handle.
In this case study, we report the results of SCD Bio Ag’s efficacy at fighting root-knot nematodes in infected tomatoes in both a greenhouse and a lab study.
SCD Bio Ag:
- Eradicated 78 - 91% of root-knot nematodes in the greenhouse study, significant because root-knot nematodes can be especially devastating under glass
- In the lab study, different concentrations of SCD Bio Ag were tested. Each Bio Ag treatment showed low levels of root knot formation: root systems were completely intact with 2 of the 3 tested concentrations, and only small formed knots with the 3rd.
So maybe we can’t control the weather or the markets for you, but as you’ll see in our whitepaper, probiotics have been shown to help you navigate infestation--without chemicals--to avoid devastating crop losses.
